Choosing the Right Permanent Makeup Practitioner

Ten Important Points to Choosing the Right Permanent Makeup Practitioner

1. Prices: Never ever choose a permanent makeup practitioner on price alone!

In my professional opinion, prices often reflect the level of training and experience of the practitioner you are considering. Remember this person will be performing the permanent procedure on YOUR face so never choose on price alone. This procedure is an art and requires advanced skills for great results. Too low a price and you should question the expertise of the practitioner, quality of colour pigments (are they FDA and EU approved?) being used and the standards of environment.

2.Training

Consider if the practitioner has a beauty, medical and a creative artistic flair background. If none of these then definitely research the training they have received. The training company they trained with, how long ago did they train, ask to see the certificates, insurance, licensing. If they do not have them then go no further with this practitioner. I conducted my training many years ago with Nouveau Contour, the market leaders in this industry and continue to learn today as the industry evolves.

To simplify, it is just as important to know how experienced they are as well as how long they have been a permanent makeup practitioner. Let me elaborate:-

If they have been carrying out permanent makeup over 5 years plus but only do this part time, or have another business or spend most of their time doing facials and pedicures, then their ‘skills’ may not necessarily give you the same results as a full time dedicated practitioner like myself, for example.  Aside from the contribution of lecturing at the College and University, this is my dedicated career – day in and day out. I could not perform to such high standards of work if I did not have the years of expertise and 100’s of clients I see over the days, months, years.

Ask ‘How many procedures do they do a week/month’, do they do this every day? How many procedures over the years have been carried out? May I see some of your portfolio images? How often do their update skills?

Don’t choose someone that dips in and out of this profession!!! Practise really does make perfect!

3.Insurance

If your permanent makeup practitioner is qualified and licensed then they should be able to show you their insurance document. Check that there is a reference number allocated and that the name on the certificate is the practitioner you are visiting and the date is valid.

4. Licensing

Whether your practitioner is working from a dedicated clinic or is a visiting practitioner to many clinics check they are correctly licensed. By being licensed they are local authority approved to carry out this needle procedure. This means their hygiene; health and safety standards and clinic environment have been assessed and meet the local authority bylaws.   Also that the needles get collected and disposed of safely by a specialist collection company. If they do not hold this license ask yourself, why not?

5. What Associations do they belong to?

Most permanent makeup practitioners will seek to belong to an Association in the Permanent Makeup field. Never choose based solely on this but it is a good indication to their professionalism, commitment and to maintaining standards and regulations. For example, myself, I belong to Habia, Consulting Room Approved Practitioner and MiFl – Institute of Further Learning.

6. Ask to see endorsements/testimonials

Firstly, they should have a portfolio and a selection of their work for you to view. This should have a selection of past and up to date testimonials from clients. If you need further assurance, ask if you could call a couple of them to get a verbal recommendation.

This will give you a greater accurate representation of this practitioner you are considering.

7. Free Consultation & Time To Think

Most Permanent Makeup Practitioners will give free consultations or a charge that is redeemable against the procedure. Never feel pressured into making an appointment to have the treatment carried out if you are not sure. If need be, go away, take the practitioner’s advice and consider everything you have been recommended. Remember because you had the free consultation you are under no-obligation to have the treatment done or if you have paid a redeemable charge you should have up to 3 months to decide.

Once you have made the decision to have Permanent Makeup, be expected to pay a deposit to book the procedure date and time – normally £50 for one procedure, two £100 and three procedures £150. This should be redeemable on the day unless you cancel outside the terms and conditions or do not turn up.

8. Gut Feelings Count

Most permanent makeup practitioners hold clinics in various salons and clinics in different areas and there are those that had a dedicated one clinic. Ideally your consultation will take place in the same place that you will be having the procedure completed. Ensure the environment is clean sterile and a license is held. Speak to the practitioner, view their website, contact details and check that all clinic addresses are visible on the web site. Just as important is your initial gut feeling about the practitioner, information provided and clinic environment.

Is the practitioner’s work displayed on the web site? Can you view plenty testimonials.

A professional Elite Permanent Makeup Practitioner should have a website and place of business to match their overall standards and professionalism.

Once again if any of these are missing, you should question the ability and professionalism of the practitioner you are thinking of choosing.

9. Are your Expectations Realistic?

It is common practise for clients to ask for celebrity brows, or a fad lip colour or Amy Winehouse eyeliner or Angelina Jolie lips. My job is to ensure that my client is provided with a honest realistic idea of what is achievable on their face shape, bone structure, skin tone etc. Do not let a practitioner promise you a particular shape or colour without them explaining or showing you how it is achievable. For example, drawing on the brow shape or pigment colours on forehead to help choose.

Remember that with permanent makeup, less is more. You can always add to your permanent makeup with conventional make up when you go out. At the perfecting top-up it is even possible to add more permanent makeup if it’s realistically possible.

The aim of permanent make up is to enhance and complement your natural features and add renewed freshness – not to change your look completely!

10. Have you Made that Decision to Look Great, All Day, Every Day?

Once you have made the decision to go ahead with your treatment – and I will say again, with an expert that ticks all the right boxes – you will feel a new sense of excitement and be itching to ”get the job done”.  A little nervousness is perfectly normal too.    At this point, still continue asking questions if you have any outstanding issues.  It’s important you’re 100% ready for this life changing treatment and are in no way concerned.

I’m sure that, as with many of my clients,  once the procedure is completed you will wonder what all the fuss was about, and I will probably hear you say ‘I wish I’d had this done years ago’. ‘I can’t believe the difference it makes, I look younger’, ‘and I love it’.

As a permanent makeup practitioner, a permanent makeup fan, a permanent makeup educator I know you will feel great and love looking your best every day. You have nothing to lose by booking a consultation, giving me a call or email me your questions.

Make today the first new day of a new you!

Call 07980 578252 or email me today to book your consultation, and let me show you how you too can look great, not to mention save time and money – every day!

Eyebrow Shaping Ideas: Celebrity Eyebrows

Get Eyebrow Shaping Ideas From Your Favourite Celebrity Eyebrows!

What Celebrity brows would you like? – Megan Fox?  Jennifer Aniston? Kim Kardashian?

On occasions, I am  asked to work on celebrities that require my permanent makeup skills to enhance their existing brows.  It’s not surprising with all these glamorous eyebrows on celebrities that they are starting to set trends for eyebrow shapes too.  Arched, curved and the high definition brows are the most flattering and age defying to have.

A big thank you to TV and celebrity magazines like OK and Hello, they do a great job in revealing the life’s and beauty tips of so many beautiful celebrities.  This is one of the reasons that it has become common practice every day at my clinic for new clients to ask for celebrity brows!  A celebrity brow is an ambiguous description as every celebrity has different shaped brows!  I would advise that ‘just because a celebrity is your favourite, doesn’t mean you should necessarily choose an eyebrow shape just because they have it unless of course, it would suit your face shape too.’

You may well ask how I figure out what they really need.  Well as a permanent makeup specialist with over 18 years experience in permanent makeup, makeup artistry and beauty I’m competently qualified to just know.  As soon as a client walks into my clinic I can see what will suit them.

If they are set on celebrity brows, I would suggest we look at a celebrity that closely resembles their face structure (round, thin, apple, etc. shaped face). Something that looks amazing on Megan Fox just might not look that wonderful on a woman who looks more like Jennifer Aniston.  To give further assurance, I then draw on brow enhancement so the client can see the perfect brow for them.  Bingo they get the picture!  Then the procedure begins.

So what I have created to help you choose your most favourite celebrity brow that matches with your face shape, a gallery of some of the best celebrity’s eyebrow photos.   If you have plenty brow hair all of these shapes are achievable by using various styling methods like waxing, tweezing and threading.  But more than often, most women have sparse brows, have over plucked brows or hair loss due to medical reasons.  This is where permanent cosmetic makeup can give you back stunning brows that will stay put 24/7, smudge-free with an age defying finish.

I hope you will enjoy this read and ultimately will inspire you to do something with your brows if needed. After all, they are the most important feature on your face. If you don’t believe me take a look at the last two photos in the gallery! Can you afford to be brow less?
